It began with Sprint Nextel, followed by Cingular (now AT&T) and now Verizon Wireless follows suite. Verizon will now charge its subscribers $.15, up from $.10, for each SMS, whether it’s incoming or outgoing. This price increase will begin on the 1st of March, and will affect all customers except those who are subscribed to a messaging plan. Available info via FAQ isn’t clear as to whether Verizon will allow customers who don’t have a text messaging plan to terminate their contracts without paying the corresponding fee, though it has been reported that Customer Service Reps have been offering to disable the text messaging feature for free as it is the only item that has been affected by the price change.
