Stunning Motorola Rapture VU30 shows its face

The war of the cellphones is heating up and the new Motorola handset is only adding much more razzmatazz to the whole deal. Christened the Rapture VU30, the sleek shiny and slim clamshell supports CDMA dual band (800/1900 MHz) networks as well as EVDO and 3G. Adorned with a 2-megapixel camera featuring digital zoom, the phone also comes laced with a video and MP3player, stereo Bluetooth, A-GPS as well as support for microSD and microUSB making it pretty packed for a mid-level clamshell. Of course these are all just preliminary reports and we will all have to wait for full specs release to know all about this wonderful phone but we can sure wait for that a while.

FCC reveals Motorola-made JayZ headphones

Don’t know about you, but lately I like Motorola’s accessories more than their phones. Now the struggling American handset maker is partnering with Jay-Z to release the branded Bluetooth headphones. We’re not sure how exactly the famous rapper helped Moto in making of this headset, but we know it looks kinda weird on FCC pages. These are A2DP stereo Bluetooth compatible headphones and we’re not sure when we’ll see them officially announced. We are sure, though, Motorola won’t be quiet once all the paperwork is done and the headset is ready for the prime time…

Released for Sprint, the Motorola RAZR VE20 provides one-touch access to its music player, text inbox and menu controls from its external LCD. The RAZR VE20 offers Sprint-exclusive content such as NFL Mobile Live, a new application that streams NFL content. NFL Mobile Live is free to customers with a data plan. It offers live audio broadcast of all NFL regular season games, live audio / video stream of eight NFL Network games (beginning in November 2008,) exclusive team content and video highlights. Additional functions include Sprint Music Store for over-the-air song downloads, Sprint TV with live and on demand programming, stereo Bluetooth wireless technology, a microSD card slot and a 2.0-megapixel camera.

Motorola adds ten new mobile phones to its Brazil inventory

We had already seen the slow pace of new launches by Motorola that was making it lose its customers to more advanced devices. Motorola, it seems has finally woken up to its revenue loss and is set to expand its base globally. It has geared up to woo the Brazilians by bringing ten of its best models to this country. For the high-end Brazilian users, Motorola is bringing its latest product Motozine ZN5 that is one of the best camera phones until date. Motorola’s partnership with Kodak has paid off in incorporating the best photographic features for the phone. ZN5 has 5MP camera with autofocus, Xenon flash, 4GB memory storage capacity, photos could be shared in the Kodak Gallery and images could be easily uploaded to various sites through the ShoZu service.

Apart from the ZN5, Brazilians will also get to possess the 1,299 USD Z10. It is Motorola’s kick-slider 3G model with 3.2MP digital camera, 2.2-inches display and 32GB memory. In September along with ZN10, the Motozine ZN200 will also be launched in Brazil. This model priced much less than other models of the Motozine family comes with 2MP camera, Bluetooth stereo, image editing software, 3G, enhanced audio quality with CrystalTalk technology, 30MB internal memory and 1GB of memory card.

The original version of the MotoRazr V9 Special Edition with CrystalTalk technology and the preinstalled Mobile Ferrari World Championship is coming for 1,399 U.S. $.

While the Motozine models are targeted at the high-end users, Motorola is also bringing its bouquet of W-series low budget phones. The affordable four series of cellular W includes – W180, W396 and W388. Brazilians now have a wide array of Motorola devices to choose.

Motorola’s touchscreen offering for Verizon - Motorola Blaze isn’t an iPhone fighter

Verizon Wireless, lacking a focused strategy to battle Apple’s current iPhone and upcoming iPhone 3G, has been flooding their CDMA market with touchscreen handsets of all sorts for the better half of the past year. With a dizzying array of almost-there touchscreen handsets aimed at Verizon customers looking for a good iPhone-compromise on America’s “most reliable network,” Verizon has just shed some light on yet another touchscreen offering.

The Motorola Blaze, as it’s called, sports a haptic-feedback touchscreen in a form-factor that reminds us of Motorola’s MING lineup. A transparent plastic cover keeps the touchscreen protected, but also allows for the touchy-feely handset to be used with the flip-cover closed.

A custom Verizon OS powers the Motorola Blaze, making sure that the company’s woefully clunky software kills off any chance that the Blaze could actually be a hit. But, if things like a seriously squishy touchscreen and barely acceptable user interface aren’t deal-killers, Verizon customers might be impressed by the 2 megapixel camera, EVDO Rev. A, GPS, Bluetooth, and mobile TV features that lie beneath the full-body touchscreen.

As a potential iPhone 3G alternative, the Motorola Blaze looks to fall short of delivering the shelf-appeal required to battle Cupertino’s handset offering. But, don’t count the Motorola Blaze out just yet, July 11 is still a couple weeks off.

Motorola named by ATT as outstanding supplier, highlights strength in teamwork

Now this is just sad. Motorola doesn’t seem to be doing anything more productive with its time than cutting jobs and publicizing a rather pathetic commendation from AT&T. Apparently, Motorola has been named, by AT&T, as an “Outstanding Supplier,” among 27 other companies, in “the area of teamwork.”

Had Motorola been named “Most Innovative,” “Best in Customer Satisfaction,” singled out as a “good company,” or some other title that might be a little more relevant, we’d (1) be totally surprised, and (2) actually consider it an award worth mentioning. Unfortunately, it seems poor Moto isn’t capable of doing much more than getting awards for its teamwork - which isn’t exactly something we consider noteworthy.

What is noteworthy, however, is that Motorola is in such dire need for positive spin that they’ve resorted to actually publicizing their excellence in “teamwork.” Says Dan Moloney, president of Motorola’s Home and Networks Mobility business, “we are delighted to be named amongst AT&T’s best of the best in teamwork.”

Right, enough with the arm-twisting self-back-pats, guys. Get back to work on something truly worth our time (or at least find a new CEO that can lead you guys back to glory). Come back when you have a product that can compete on the global market (3G, WiFi, GPS, good style, decent usabilty).

Wi-Lan Sues Motorola, RIM, UTStarcom

Wi-Lan Inc has begun litigation against Motorola Inc , Research In Motion , and UTStarcom Inc, alleging that their mobile handheld devices and other equipment are infringing on Wi-Lan’s patents, the company said on Friday.

The Ottawa-based technology and licensing firm said it has initiated litigation in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.

Wi-Lan also said that it has settled its dispute with Marvell Semiconductor Inc in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Wi-Lan has licensed its intellectual property to over 100 companies and has a portfolio of patented inventions in a range of electronics and communications products, the company said.

Sprint Motorola Q9c enters hospice care - nearing end of life?

With the Samsung Instinct poised to take the reigns as Sprint’s flagship smartphone, it might make sense to stop pushing lesser handsets. As such, we’re hearing that Sprint’s Windows Mobile-powered Motorola Q9c is getting the ax, as it enters it’s “end of life.”

The speculation comes from reports that indicate Sprint is not stocking the Moto Q9c on their online storefront, and Sprint reps have reportedly said that the handset will not be restocked once current supplies are exhausted. If the Q9c is indeed headed toward hospice care, Motorola’s going to be hurting ever worse - we don’t see any Motorola hardware that could replace the Q9c in the pipeline. It seems Motorola’s dimly shining star, the Moto Q9, is starting to fade.

Is Motorola trying to further cost cutting initiatives by slowing down handset development and research? With half the research team pink-slipped or reassigned, it sure seems that way to us. What Motorola needs is a mid- to high-end lineup of media-centric handsets that can play with the big-dogs - GPS, WiFi, 3G (HSDPA), and possibly even touchscreens. The 3G-lacking MotoZINE lineup just ain’t gonna cut it.

Oh Moto (by which I am referring to the chief-executive-whatevers), why do you disappoint us so? At this rate, it won’t be long before Motorola’s US market share drops down to global levels - in other words, it was a nice run, but it’s coming to an end.

MOTOROKR U9 Coming Soon?

Clearer photos of the much anticipated MOTOROKR U9 have found its way online, hurrah! Reminiscent of the PEBL-designwise, the oval-shaped clamshell phone measures 90 x 48.6 x 16.4 mm and weighs 87.5 grams. It’s kind of a turn-off that this phone is not equipped with a 3.5mm headset jack. It comes with a 2.0 megapixel camera built on top of the external OLED LCD screen, allowing users to take pictures even with the clamshell closed, a QVGA 262K TFT display screen, among other features. Motorola is yet to issue a release date and a fullÂ list of specifications.
