Unfortunately, they don’t show cool high-end models always, but still we appreciate them for their intelligence services. That being said, we’ve just spotted the low-end Nokia 2680 Slide on their pages. The presence of the AT&T logo clearly suggests where this entry-level baby is heading to. It’s a simple phone with specs that doesn’t impress, at all — low-end camera, FM radio, music player, and that’s about it.

Unsubsidized price should be around $115 or free with any kind of contract. Or AT&T will push the device as one of the phones from its GoPhone offering…

AT&T might not be a household name in what companies call emerging markets but that little fact might soon change for good. FCC voyeurs have reported seeing a Nokia 2680 slide doing the rounds of the certification specialists proudly bearing an AT&T logo on its face. And since we all know that the phone has already been described as Nokia as being one created especially for the masses already described above, it can mean only one thing- that those poor chaps in the developing world are going to be bombarded with yet another massive ad campaign!

As for the phone itself, well its got a an FM radio, MP3 ringtone support, a not too great cam and a price tag of around $114 that might drop significantly once you count the subsidies and stuff which makes it just the perfect platform for AT&T to jumpstart their third world adventure with!

OK so before anyone of you start contemplating slapping me with a suit for misreporting, lemme get one thing clear: the pics shown above are of a “high-imitation” Nokia N79 and not the original. But you know what, I bet this Chinese copy can surely tell us a whole lot about what we can expect the real deal to look like. Though it certainly aint as impressive or innovative as the rest of the NSeries models have been so far we certainly adore this frame for its streamlined figure if nothing else. The color scheme certainly leaves a lot to be desired but I guess that fact will be (and should be) rectified in the original. On the whole the design does not differ much from your average Nokia scheme of things which in this case is a great thing because the last thing we want is a high-end NSeries phone to suck on account of a bad frame!

Lusting after Nokia phones can be a bad habit, especially if you feel that you need to own most of the beauties that they dish out. A glance at the Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte leaves you captivated. The strong use of carbon fiber mixed titanium and stainless steel accentuate the polished glass finish. With innovative features like tap-for-time, the current time can be invoked on to the display by merely tapping twice the steel surface under it. A 3.2MP camera captures crisp shots and displays them on the OLED screen, where as the 4GB built-in memory is sufficient to store them. The anti-fingerprint coating keeps away the smudges and the all-in-one microUSB connector makes hooking up to devices easy and fast. Offering 3G connectivity, it’s in the same league as most modern phones. The Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte will be available in the 3rd quarter of 2008 with an estimated retail price of 1,100 Euros exclusive of subsidies and taxes.

Those of you with sharp eyes may have noticed that two of the 4 products announced by Nokia yesterday have the latest version of S40, 6th Edition. While S40 is not a smart phone operating system due to the lack of a native programming model and the lack of multitasking, it is still impressive and many many many more people use S40 rather than S60. Here is a change log from the S40 Forum Nokia homepage:

Series 40 6th Edition represents a continuing commitment by Nokia to mobile application developers, with support for MIDP 2.1 and the subset of the Mobile Service Architecture (JSR?248). JSR?248 provides a common implementation of seven popular JSRs. These implementations are shared with S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2, and it is expected that other manufacturers of Java™ phones will implement JSR?248. This means that developers will be able to create applications for Nokia platforms that will also run on other manufacturers’ devices, with little or no change.

In addition, Series 40 6th Edition delivers exciting new opportunities for the creation of location-based applications, with the introduction of the Location API for J2ME™ (JSR?179). This API can utilize an external Bluetooth GPS unit to obtain location information.

Series 40 6th Edition also provides improved support to Adobe Flash developers with the inclusion of the Flash Lite 3 Player. In addition to playing stand-alone Flash Lite content and applications and offering animated screen savers, Flash Lite can also be used to create animated “organic” wallpaper for Series 40 devices.

For Web developers, Series 40 6th Edition brings new opportunities with a browser based on the WebKit open source components WebCore and JavaScriptCore. This new browser delivers support for HTML 4.01, CSS2, JavaScript™ 1.5, and Ajax. Series 40 users can now experience a desktop-like Web browsing experience, which opens up new possibilities for Web developers to deliver sophisticated Web-based services to the mobile marketplace.

The platform continues to support 240 x 320-pixel screens, meaning media developers continue to benefit from the improved viewing experience and realize continued growth in the consumption of content and media. The platform approach, with its uniform implementation of technologies and supporting tools, documentation, and examples, will continue to offer developers the easiest route to seize mass-market opportunities.

And more information can be had in this PDF, most notably:

An enhanced UI with transitions support providing smooth-state transitions during UI navigation.

Additional audio and video codecs with support for Windows Media Video (WMV) 9, and Windows Media Audio (WMA) 10.

Extended WLAN capabilities.

Series 40 6th Edition — OMA MMS version 1.3 is supported, and the maximum supported message size has been increased to 600 kB.

The Nokia 6600 Fold smoothly opens with one touch of a button, revealing a bright 2.13-inch OLED screen displaying up to 16 million colors. Creating a comfortable contour when open, and remaining subtle and compact when closed, the 6600 Fold’s high-gloss surface comes to life when tapped twice to ‘wake up’ the hidden outer display that reveals time, incoming messages, missed calls and more. A double tap on the 6600 Fold also snoozes alerts and silences or rejects incoming phone calls. Contemporary features include 3G technology for fast and easy sharing of pictures and videos and access to Internet services such as Yahoo! Go or Flickr. A built-in 2.0-megapixel camera comes with a double LED flash ensuring photos come out great in dim lighting.
